When my friend was eliminated from Exploration: Warzone in a game we were playing, the only indications of that were in the game log and in a note in his score box that said "The game is finished for this player." He could even continue to select and rotate hexes, although the game would not let him confirm them. And the hex placement area continued to show places for 3 hexes to be placed. I suggest a few visual changes to improve the experience when a player is eliminated.
(Several of my suggestions are based on visual changes in two other games on Board Game Arena where elimination occurs: Schrodinger's Cats and Coup.)
I suggest triggering the following visual changes any time a player is eliminated:
(1) In the player's score box, add strikethrough to the eliminated player's name. (I'm guessing there may be an API command for this.)
(2) For the player's spaceship card, indicate the player's elimination by dimming the spaceship card AND/OR placing a red X through the spaceship card.
I further suggest triggering the following visual change if at the end of a round only 1 player is eliminated:
(3) Dim the eliminated player's hexes and make it so they cannot be clicked on. (I also thought of clearing them from the screen, but I prefer dimming them because that way the eliminated player can look at them and say "guys, I would have played [such and such] tile next!")
(4) Change the hex placement area to look as it would for a 2-person game. Don't show the outline of where the eliminated player would play. That's confusing and it made us wonder if the actions bordering that hex would still happen.
(I wrote a separate ticket suggesting a prompt allowing eliminated players to either spectate or return to the main menu.) -
