GAME IDEA AND OBJECTIVE
Grab the diamonds! Before someone else snatches them away! In BRILLIANT, you aim to fill the fields on your sheet with numbers faster than everyone else. To do this, you must write one of the two rolled numbers next to an already entered number. The grid is divided into areas of different colors, each with specific rules for entering numbers. The faster you complete an area, the more points you earn. The player who first reaches a certain minimum score at the end of the game wins.
GAME SETUP
Each player takes a sheet of the same level. Write the six starting numbers from 1 to 6 in fields of six different areas of the grid (one number per area).
For the first game, it is recommended to use Level 1 and enter the six starting numbers from 1 to 6 in the fields marked with a small star. Alternatively, you can freely choose the starting fields. The important thing is that they belong to different areas.
GAMEPLAY
When the game begins, both dice are rolled. You can now enter one of the rolled numbers into your grid. The chosen number must be written vertically or horizontally next to another already entered number. For example, if you roll a 2 and a 5, you can choose to write a 2 next to an already entered 5, or a 5 next to an already entered 2. A new number is always entered orthogonally—above, below, right, or left of the already entered number. Be sure to follow the rules of the respective area, which are explained below under "Area Rules." Since everyone plays simultaneously, the rolled result applies to all players. However, you don't all have to enter the same number. The next player clockwise then takes both dice, rolls again, and the game continues. Note: During the game, it may happen that a dice roll cannot be used, and you cannot enter a number. In this case, you skip the entry and hope the next roll suits you better.
AREA RULES
In green areas, there are no restrictions. You can enter any number in any green field.
In blue and gray areas, all numbers must be the same.
In red and yellow areas, all numbers must be different. No number may be repeated.
In purple areas, only up to two different numbers may be entered. Three or more different numbers are not allowed.
In orange areas, you may only enter numbers from 1–3 or from 4–6.
COMPLETING AN AREA
When you complete an area, immediately announce which area you have completed. If no one else has completed it yet, circle the highest of the three point values in this area, while all other players cross out this value on their sheets. You then mark these points on the scoring track at the top of your sheet by crossing out the corresponding points.
If another player later completes the same area, they receive the second point value, circle it, and all other players cross it out. This player also marks the respective points on their scoring track.
If multiple players complete the same area in the same turn, they all receive the same point value and circle it. The third point value for an area is never crossed out. All players who complete an area can still achieve these points, even if the higher points have already been taken.
END OF GAME
After several rounds, when multiple areas have been completed and a player reaches (or exceeds) a certain score on the scoring track, the game ends.
If you played with 5 or more players, you need to reach 20 points. With 4 players, it's 22 points, and with 3 players, it's 24 points. If playing with 2 players, you need at least 26 points. If you achieve this, you win.
It may happen that multiple players reach or exceed the required points simultaneously. In this case, the player with the highest score wins. If there is a tie, all players with the highest score win.
